In a new restaurant, across the street from the Snake River in Idaho Falls is Snow Eagle Brewing and Grill which has been open since July of 2011. But there has been no beer brewed for this label as the federal license has not been approved. Jerry & Sumiko Mitchell, owners, hired Andy Shaw, a self-proclaimed “Passionate Zymurgist,”as their Brew Master. He has transformed the space into his idea of the perfect brewery. There are photos on Facebook (Snow Eagle Brewing) from the gutted building to its present state. Andy designed the facilities, installed and wired everything, and has state of the art equipment monitoring that will allow him to keep an eye on thing and make changes from his smart phone.
Have you looked up ‘zymurgist’ yet?
Military service in Europe gave him an opportunity to tasteworld class beer, upon returning home he began making his own in an attempt to produce better beer than he could get stateside. Twenty years later he is well established in the brewing community as a Brew Master and a certified judge for the last ten years. With a proficiency, recognized with numerous awards for lagers ales and mead entered into Eastern Idaho Sate Fair and other venues, Andy has been a guest brewer at a variety of establishments in Montana, Utah, Wyoming and Idaho and collaborated with other Master Brewers to great acclaim.
Look forward to Snow Eagle brews like Honey Blonde Ale, American Brown Ale, American Pale Ale, and a seasonal offering. Local malts, made from locally grown barley, and Yakima hops varieties will provide the raw materials in the capable hands of Andy Shaw, Passionate Zymurgist and Snow Eagles Brew Master.
Andy judges at the Annual Mountain Brewers’ Beer Fest, is held in the early part of June (this year June 2, link: http://www.northamericanbrewers.org/) in Idaho Falls. The North American Brewers’ Association is a non profit organization that donates all proceeds from the one-day festival to charity. Seems a visit during the first weekend in June would get you some fantastic beer and the great feeling of helping out a good cause.
