Spring is here, which means lots of wind to whip the clouds around the lovely blue sky, playing hide-and-seek with the sun. It means planting season is really getting going and I will have to be patient while my love works long days. I am looking forward to getting out into the garden; this weekend at the local community garden we will be doing just that as there are young plants that need to be put into their new homes; native pollinators need native plants!
But tonight, it is a red night. Specifically, it is an Amavi Cellars 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon night. Know the smell in the air after it rains? That is the aroma of this nearly opaque wine; wet clay with very ripe berries – ok, more a summer day than spring, but it is still timely to me. Short of smelling the out-of-doors on my kids when they were little – or kids in my life now – that is my favorite smell.
2009 in the Walla Walla AVA, where all of the grapes are from, was a complex year weather wise. And it was a complex year in my life as well; I made it to Walla Walla for the first time in early July of that year. Amavi is the combination of the Italian word love and the beginning of the words life and wine. I do love life, and I love wine nearly as much. All of this justifies its timeliness in my life right now.
Happy Spring! Get out and enjoy it, rain, hail or shine. Look forward to another complex, really exciting year! I am.
