It was officially posted to my Facebook page that the 2013 Crush I have been submersed in is barreled. My reaction surprised me: disappointment was the first feeling, followed by relief. For the last few days I have been fighting the cold that seems to have plagued most of my peers and I want to beat it; not possible with minimal sleep and conflicting priorities. With exams and presentations coming up quickly it behooves me to study and work on my academics. But, the last few months have helped me grasp the basic vineyard and cellar concepts well and the physical activity helped me drop several pounds and tone up – something I hadn’t been able to accomplish for a long time during my previous lifestyle. I will miss it!
The fog obscures the sparkling white Blue Mountains, the leaves are nearly all off the trees and we are lighting a fire most evenings. I have caught myself thinking about next year’s wine and imagining what I would like to make at home, never mind during my internship. I have been thinking about my internship too for that matter. With the experiences I have had at College Cellars and several smaller wineries, I hope to find a great place to round out and enhance what I have begun to develop.
