For Sale – great time to get the home of your dreams…

The culprit - for about twelve hours water poured forth from this split.

Two weeks ago, while I was finalizing my Fall Quarter and coughing more than breathing the house we have for sale flooded: a one inch split in a copper pipe destroyed nearly 4,000 square feet of new carpet, lovely hardwood floors, drywall, ceilings  and oak panel walls, and heaved tiles out-of-place.  I saw it for the first time last weekend; certainly not in any condition to sell now.

Our insurance company has to wait for the place to be dry and all of the damaged areas to be cleared of debris to give us an estimate, but they are mumbling some rather large numbers at us.  This is a cathartic post, one to share our heartache and headache; then I can post the restoration photos when it is done and we are back on the market.

I know it is difficult to see the whole of the house and get the true picture (for those of you interested the link to the real estate listing is here).

What should be a relaxing break will now require much decision-making and research to make this house salable again.  Did I say I have 24 credits Winter Quarter?  Yup, it is going to be a busy winter here.

  1. Ouch – I’m so sorry. We had a pipe crack here too during the freeze (we were in CA) but fortunately it was an outside garden faucet so it didn’t do any damage in the house. I hope you don’t have too many hassles with the insurance company or getting everything redone. Camille

    1. Glad you had no damage when you returned home.
We meet with the insurance company and the reconstruction company on Thursday. We have to make several decisions right away as I begin school again on the 6th & my husband has business out of state most of January.
