Ever vigilant for new varietals in a bottle to add to our Wine Century Club list, I was overjoyed to spot a bottle with three while we were in Costco this weekend. To make it even better, this is a Washington State wine, so it qualifies for Washington Wine Month; it was meant to come home with us.
Yakima Valley AVA fruit and Woodinville based Brian Carter Cellars produced ‘Opulento’ with 55% Touriga, 21% Sousao, 14% Tinto cao, and 10% Tempranillo. Cocoa and cherry aromas, berries, pie cherries, dark chocolate with a hint of almonds on the palate. This is a candy bar in a glass, would probably be terrific with ice-cream or pound cake.
I am intrigued by the label – the matte and shiny texture look like embossed black velvet. Simple yet classy. The gold is nice, but difficult to read in the smaller fonts… maybe that is my tired eyes though.
After hours of yard work this weekend, in gloriously spring sun, this was a nice treat in the evening. I am taking full advantage of being on Spring Break this week! Cheers!
