Yesterday was another very long day at the Locati Cellars Winery. We brought in Barbera and Primitivo last week and this was the day we pressed it all; those nine bins gave us just shy of 20,000 gallons of wine. It took the two of us all day. I got to use my new headlamp to clean the press and the crush pad since it was dark (got to like that). It needs to be really clean with the pressure washer since that will be the last fruit through it this season, soon, during daylight hours that will happen. The smaller tools are all cleaned well and put away until next year’s crush. We put the wines into tanks since we are waiting for barrels to arrive. When you get way more fruit than you planned sometimes you run out of places to put it. This waiting for barrels (ordered from California) will delay the finalization of our 2014 crush; maybe sometime next week?
This evening, Halloween, I will be lighting lots of candles in fun candle holders, opening many bags of candy to give away and enjoying the parade of costumed kids (of all ages) as I answer the door for trick-or-treaters. There will be wine and music for the in-between-knocks, how do you celebrate Halloween?
