We have had gloriously mild weather this season, but when the sun goes down the temperatures are dipping lower as the days progress. On one such chilly Fall evening a lovely 2010 Tempranillo was in order. It was rich and smooth, dark fruits with a smidgen of oak. Perfect! (As you may have guessed, I am partial to Tempranillo.)
Mansion Creek Cellars is named for the 1896-built Widlheim Mansion just south of old-town Walla Walla where Julia and Rodger Russell reside when in Walla Walla. The tasting room, with light, bright, modern decor, is one of the five located at the base of the Marcus Whitman Hotel. The energetic, always smiling owner and wine-maker, Julia (‘Mama Julia’ once you know her for a few minutes) and her co-owner/husband Roger Russell have a rather large offering of primarily Spanish-style based wines – we have a tidy amount in our wine cooler for the time being. This is one of the places we tend to bring home a case at a time! That could become a bad habit but, oh, what a bad habit.
